Playhouse Theatre has re-opened after refurbishment!

The Playhouse Theatre opened it's doors to the public, at the end of June, after major refurbishment of the auditorium and the members' bar. The work included installation of new seating, a new sound booth and a new lighting booth. Structural changes also were made to other parts of the theatre. There are now fewer seats in the auditorium, affording more 'leg-room' between rows and reducing the cost of performance licences.

The results are magnificent! You must come and see a show.

Please visit www.playhousecheltenham.org to see a blog that reported progress of the refurbishment.

Meet Phoebe, first cast member of The Cherry Orchard!

Meet Phoebe, Deep End’s newest recruit and the first actor to pass the audition for next spring’s production of The Cherry Orchard. Phoebe is a four-year-old Jack Russell whose owner, Janet Stephenson, answered our Press appeal for a small dog to appear with the governess Charlotta in Act One.

Phoebe and her owner are lovely ladies who will be very welcome members of the company and Phoebe, who has one ear up and one ear down most of the time, is guaranteed to upstage everyone – so be warned, actors! She has a lovely temperament and attends regular Pet Therapy sessions at a retirement home, so is used to being around strangers.

Needless to say, when I went to see her she passed the audition without even having to read any lines – though she did at one stage add in a little improvisation when she said ‘woof’ but that was because someone passed by the window.

Needless to say, anyone thinking of auditioning for Charlotta will need to be dog-friendly, but it’s hard to imagine anyone not getting on with Phoebe.
